Configuration Management

Effectivity, baselines, and the relationship between product structure and configured views of it across releases.

Why this matters

Configuration management is what makes a product structure useful across time. Without it, the BOM only describes "the latest" — not "what was shipped" or "what's about to ship."

What this page will cover

  • Effectivity patterns (date, serial, lot, option)
  • Baselines and snapshots
  • The relationship between structure and configured views
  • Reconciling differences across releases
